BentoBox Groundhog Day Campaign

Cofax has the best breakfast burritos in Los Angeles. #IYKYK.

So when the agency, BentoBox, contacted me to be part of their Groundhog Day campaign I said, “Yes!”, and also, “Can I expense a burrito?”.

The prompt was to create a collage based around a “Groundhog Day Dish”: a go-to item that you order over and over again. I knew immediately it was the chorizo breakfast burrito with red salsa and an iced oat milk latte from Cofax. This was to be a surprise and delight social media post.

My concept was to create scenes of far-off places that I’d travel to just to get my hands on a Cofax burrito. One was high-above the clouds, and the other deep in a desert-like valley where the land was made of tortillas atop layers of delicious fillings.

I used a combination of my own photography (that’s what the expensing a burrito was for!), stock photos, and vintage imagery to create these dream-like collage scenes.

I kept in mind the Cofax brand when designing by showing their signature blue checkered wrap, with the “Let’s Go Chorizo” sticker seal front and center. In the secondary artwork, I matched the dress to Cofax blue, with a nod to their secondary light pink color in the ribbon in the girl’s hair.

For the cherry on top, I was able to present the team at Cofax with framed prints of these original designs. It felt so cool to be able to support one of my favorite local restaurants through my artwork. Thanks to the team at BentoBox for including me in this project!
